Mahjong 101 - Learn to play
For brand new players.
This class includes all the basics of game play:
- Learn the tiles and joker rules
- Learn the flow of the game
- Understand the NMJL card
- Understand the basic NMJL rules and best practices
- Learn game etiquette
- Guided play
Mahjong 102 - Learn to win
You do not need weeks of practice before moving from 101 to 102. This class is designed to give you the tools to feel more confident at the table - faster decisions, improving hand selection, and gaining a clearer understanding of the rules and flow of game.
This class includes:
- Quick review of 101 basics and rules
- Diving into the NMJL card and the variations and rules for each hand
- Charleston tips
- Pivoting basics
- Defensive strategies
- Simple scoring and payout methods
- Introduction of 2 & 3 player games
- Understanding the difference in house rules & NMJL rules
- Guided play
Strategy Training
Where it all comes together For those who have completed 101 & 102 classes, or have been playing for a while and are ready to step up their game.This class includes:
- Focus on Charleston strategies
- Defensive strategies
- Dead hand guidelines
- Continuing focus on pivoting
- Tournament prep and scoring
- Guided or free play

About Me
I have lived in Ocean Springs, MS since 2010. My family includes my husband Joe, and our 4 kids - Joey, Jackson, Caroline, and Katy.
After just a few months of playing, I fell in love with Mahjong and set out to build a community where others could learn and play — which led me to start Mahj with Andrea. I play Mahjong every chance I get and have taught more than 250 students. My favorite aspects of the game are the friendships I have formed, the evolving strategy required, and the friendly competition we have around the table each time we gather.
